Work Smarter, written by Lowell Sanborn and Matthew Pea, is intended to support University students in developing critical thinking skills as well as English language skills needed to begin and advance in their careers. This book is broken into two parts. The first focuses on starting a career with activities surrounding etiquette and standards of introductory emails, cover letters, résumés, and interviews. The second part of the textbook will help students picture themselves working with colleagues with a focus on developing soft skills, working together with data, building a portfolio, and presenting information. It is our hope that students will be able to use the skills practiced in this book in order to find careers that fit their interests and abilities. 

Lowell Sanborn과 Matthew Pea가 집필한 Work Smarter(워크 스마터)는 학생들이 취업을 준비하는 과정에서부터 직장이 요구하는 업무 능력을 미리 학습하고 발전시킬 수 있도록 구성된 책이다. 학생들은 이 책을 통해 실무에서 필요한 영어 실력과 비판적 사고 능력을 개발할 수 있어, 취업 후 직장 내에서 시행착오를 줄이고 빠르게 적응할 수 있다.

이 책은 크게 두 개의 파트로 나누어져 있다. 첫 번째 파트는 학생들이 취업을 하기 전, 이메일, 자기소개서, 이력서를 효과적으로 작성하는 방법부터 면접 시 반드시 숙지해야 하는 etiquette(에티켓)과 정보를 학습하는 것에 초점을 맞춘다. 두 번째 파트는 학생들이 취업 후, 직장 동료들과 협력하여 Soft Skills(소프트 스킬)을 개발하고, 자료를 분석하며 포트폴리오를 제작하고 비즈니스 프레젠테이션을 진행하는 데 필요한 능력을 학습하는 것에 초점을 맞춘다.

학생들이 본인의 흥미와 적성에 적합한 진로를 찾을 수 있도록, 이 책에서 학습하는 다양한 기술들이 유용하게 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.

Lowell Sanborn 

Lowell Sanborn is currently the Head Teacher and Coordinator at the School of Language Education at Gyeongsang National University in Jinju South Korea. Having studied Linguistics and TESL at the University of British Columbia Vancouver he went on to obtain a Master’s in TESOL from the University of Birmingham. Focusing now on designing curriculum and resources for teachers Lowell has been focusing on web content and workshops aimed at collaborating with other educators in solving pedagogic and logistical issues.

Lowell Sanborn은 현재 경상대학교 국제어학원에서 주임교수이자 코디네이터로 재직 중이다. University of British Columbia Vancouver에서 언어학과 TESL을 전공한 후, University of Birmingham에서 TESOL 석사학위를 취득했다.

현재 Lowell Sanborn은 교사들을 위한 교육과정 개발 및 강의 자료를 제작하는 프로젝트를 진행 중이며, 교육학 및 조직 관리에서의 Issues를 해결하기 위해 다른 교육자들과 협력하여 Web Content(웹 콘텐츠) 개발과 Workshops(워크샵)에 전념하고 있다.
